Aaron Kumana Set for FUND RAISING

Fundraising Launch, Support Kumana's 5 Recommendations.

A fundraising to support Kumana’s 5 Recommendations

http://aronkumana.blogspot.com/2010/05/aaron-kumanas-5-recommendations.html was launched after Kumana signed a first appreciation certificate to a sponsor from the US. The

certificate known as “Common Face” will be given to individual sponsors who like to help support the 5 Recommendations.

“ISATUNA ISUMATANA” translated in Kumana’ own language –
“Common Face” which gave himself to identify the face of himself and the president JF Kennedy which appeared in magazines, posters, TV or movie without confusing him. That’s why the common face is adopted for the certificate.

After his death (4 year ago) family members formed a committee to carry out his 5R’s. This committee did not work as all these committee members were scatted around the country.

This year 2017 Kumana’s grandson came to rescue again to
support his grandfather’s 5R’s .

With the small amount money donated from the friends oversea we started a Aaron Kumana (AK) rest house and a piggery project. This process may help us support the AK 5R’s.

Aaron Kumana the tiredless Elder.

Aaron Kumana the tiredless Elder.

Beginning this millennium 2000, Aaron Kumana and his grandson erected a 2 meters kind of Shrine, this to remember his rescue to John F Kennedy during World War ll. Shell money was attached to the this shrine and he said, “At this time I will place this Bakia (Shell money) to symbolized my friendship between the JFK family, the shell money will do tell of the rescue of the 35th President of the United State of America,…… the Bakia which also symbolized his (John F Kennedy) leadership since captaining the PT 109 and his position as President of the United State of America ”. (All of his time with his grand children he love to tell story of the rescue about someone important. He erected the shrine, as well for his grandchildren, for the next generation to come).

During the visitation of the geographic team from Washington USA, Mr. Aaron Kumana is expecting he
lp from them. But, however, the monument was left untouched and cannot afford to carry on the project. But he never gives up; during the visitation of the tourist boat this Easter 2009 the similar item (Bakia) (Shell money) was once place outside for his contribution (view) of thanking the American for their honor-ship towards him, but he cannot have that privilege.
Now he has a lot of dream for his community to fulfill.

The Story of the Rescue

The rescue of JFK
Compiled by me ( Rellysdom Aaron Malakana)
Interviewed 2003

We approached the Japanese wreckage boat near Naru Island. We (I and Biuku) managed to go inside to collect what we want. We began to have some jokes with those guns (seek and hide) then suddenly we saw somebody approached by and thought he was the Japanese. We quickly got inside our canoe and away from him.

We approached Olasana Island and about to reach the beach, suddenly a man crawling out from his hiding place and stood up demanding us to come to him by waving his hand. In respond Biuku said, “No moa iu Japan” (No, you are the Japanese) but the man replied and said “No, I am the American and look at my skin” (words and body language). Suddenly a plane approached and we raised our right hand up, he noticed us and said that was their sign. We were converted when others crept out voiced out the name of Mr. John Kari.

He led us to his mates and the first thing they asked was cigarettes. We stay with them and that night Kennedy swim across to Olasana bringing water for the crews. We introduced each other and said he is the one who approached them at Naru Island. After a short conversation between them he told us to follow him to Naru Island (That same night). We got him inside the canoe and paddle him across. We hear someone near and it was another friend, we cannot pull him in but have to drag him.

At Naru Island Kennedy told us how he felt for his crew mates and want to rescuer them from the enemy. He wants us to send message to their base at Rendova. We told him to write on the coconut husk. He gave us his pocket knife and asked if it is at the hands of the enemy? We said, “scratchim out” (Scratch it off).

It was heavy rain that time and on our way we thought of any possible way to prevent them from starving so we reached Rarumana Island to Ben Kevu. There we began our journey. We were approached by enemy and the only thing we did is to turn over our canoe and hide under it.

We reached Ilangana, Munda and talk to John Kari about the events at Olosana. He sent message to Rendova and a landing craft came and took us to Rendova and we were sent to highly decorated person and handed the message. He questions us and we told them the location in the map.

At the evening we board a Patrol boat escorted by two of the PT Boats on our way we have to go far us anywhere looking for the enemy, and then approached Naru for JFK and to Olosana for the rest of the crew mate’s.
We return to Rendova and Kennedy and the boys invited us for a small party and thanked us for what we did to them.
Kennedy told us “If I am alive at the end of the war I promised to visit 2 of you or invited 2 of you to America”. Then he gave us something like mental, a piece decoration of his uniform, one for me and one for Biuku.

That is the last time I saw him.

Confusion
Aaron thought Olosana Island was renamed to Kennedy Island. But now he released that Olasana Island is still the Olasana.

Highlights during Events
1. When the crew asked for cigarette
They gave them some cigarettes (collected from the wreckage) they have no fire and Aaron rubbed sticks together and there was fire. They were excited to see such thing.
2. When Kennedy asked for something to write on
We told him that we natives use many things so I (Aaron) climbed a coconut palm and we took out the husk and show him where to write. He was surprised and held my head by carefully twisting it.
3. With Kennedy across to Naru Island

Note
"They paddled across Naru Island covering Kennedy with coconut fronds keeping him unnoticed to the enemy". This is confusing to me (said Aaron Kumana)

Before the rescue I and biuku were told to keep watch for any survivors from USA. That night we heard many sound from fighting. I and Biuku kept our heads half way in the water to keep watch for any sign. We were told to carry maps of that area to Kolobangara.

Other Information’s
Regarding some of the bloody information’s during their time in the war, he said he wont tell the story again but he only wants to tell about the rescue.

After been carefully look through some of his different story I managed to satisfy with this one
